Polytech portfolio 'shuffle'

The Otago Polytechnic leadership team has "mixed feelings'' about a proposed "portfolio shuffle'', which could see an increase in responsibilities for some of its members.

The month-long consultation period on the proposed changes begins today.

Polytechnic chief executive Phil Ker said the 10 members of the leadership team were performing and no member was in danger of losing their job.

However, three new portfolios would be created and could be picked up by some existing team members to create three new "executive director'' roles.

The proposed changes would result in a "two-tier'' team structure.

The three new proposed portfolios were teaching and learning, organisational development and performance, and business development and market research.

The portfolios would give the polytechnic "a stronger focus'' on its strategy for the future.

The leadership team had mixed feelings about the changes, he said.

"But at least half of them have expressed positive feedback round the need for change.''

Mr Ker will meet the team members today to discuss the proposal.

When contacted by the Otago Daily Times yesterday, members of the leadership team declined to comment.
