The University of Otago is spending more than $600,000 to
give its staff club a face-lift.
University of Otago property services director Barry MacKay
said the main intent of the project was to reconfigure and
refurbish the upper floor by moving the existing bar.
"This will allow a better use of the remaining area and
provide improved access to the external balcony. New lighting
and furniture will also be installed and this will give a
lift to a rather tired existing environment," Mr MacKay said.
The project, which started last month and was due to be
completed before Christmas, had a budget of $612,000.
The club will not be reopened until February for "operational
reasons" and to allow external maintenance.
