Three senior university appointments

The University of Otago has appointed a chief financial officer.

Sharon van Turnhout was named in the new position as one of three senior appointments announced by vice-chancellor Prof Harlene Hayne at a recent university council meeting.

Ms van Turnhout, an Otago graduate who recently returned to Dunedin after working in London, started her role on March31.

She replaces the outgoing Grant McKenzie, who left the university in December to take up the position of group chief financial officer at the Dunedin City Council. His university title was director of financial services.

Prof Hayne also announced Karyn Thomson would replace David Richardson, who was due to retire in June, as director of student services.

Ms Thomson, director of student experience at Universal College of Learning, would start at the university next month.

Melissa Lethaby has been appointed as manager of disability information and support.

Ms Lethaby, formerly the university's learning support manager, has been acting manager since the previous head, Donna-Rose Mackay, died last year.
