An intoxicated Otago University Students' Association representative who allegedly abused staff at a BYO restaurant will have no further action taken against him by the university.
Police were called when education officer Zachariah Al-Alami allegedly refused to leave the premises after a disagreement over a $96 bottle of wine at an OUSA executives' dinner on July 23.
Mr Al-Alami took the wine, which sat on the counter of the restaurant, back to his table.
A disagreement with the manager ensued, with Mr Al-Alami eventually paying for the wine but allegedly following it up with a tirade of abuse towards staff.
Two staff members allegedly had their shirts ripped.
A police spokesman confirmed staff were called to an incident at a Moray Pl address but were initially unable to find the individuals involved.
They eventually located a man matching Mr Al-Alami's description and he was spoken to, but ''as yet, no formal complaint [has] been laid''.
A University of Otago spokeswoman said there was ''no penalty from the proctor'' for Mr Al-Alami's indiscretion and no further action would be taken.
She could not go into further detail.
OUSA communications manager Tess Trotter said it was a situation where everyone had a different point of view on the incident.
''We don't really want to enter into a `he said, she said' type of thing.
''Zac made a unreserved apology to the restaurant, which was accepted at the time by the restaurant.''
In a statement, Mr Al-Alami said what he did was wrong.
''Clearly, in a position like mine, voted to represent the student body, I shouldn't have behaved the way I did.''
