Prof Joerg Frauendiener, who does relativity research at the University of Otago department of mathematics and statistics, said that yesterday.
Over the past year, Prof Frauendiener has been thinking about the centenary of Einstein's theory of general relativity in 1915.
This has led to an interactive exhibition at Otago Museum, which opens to the public today.
Backed by efforts from other staff from the mathematics department, the university's Centre for Science Communication and Otago Museum, the show celebrates the hundred years since the announcement of Einstein's theory in 1915.
The exhibition also gives visitors an insight into Einstein as a person, who was ''looking at things in a completely different way'', Prof Frauendiener said.
The show also celebrates the achievements of Gore-born mathematician Roy Kerr, of Christchurch, who discovered the Kerr vacuum, which has been described as an exact solution to the Einstein field equation of general relativity.
The show runs till mid-January.
