CD Reviews: Counting Crows

Two decades after it was impossible to avoid the refrain of Mr Jones, Counting Crows has released an album that sounds like a natural progression from Recovering the Satellites.

After a succession of so-so albums, some live gems and a brief stint as a covers band, Somewhere Under Wonderland encapsulates much of what makes them a live phenomenon.

Adam Duritz's lyrical yearning is allowed to roam, while his six mates chime in with multilayered harmonising.

Somewhere Under Wonderland pays homage to Counting Crows' musical heroes, while still retaining a distinctive vibe.
