Successor has no time for overarching sentiments, Tonnon instead wielding an oh-so-sharp lyrical pen that dissects middle age (Railway Lines), free-ranging adolescence (Bird Brains) and occasionally mixes personal politics with desire (Dumpster Diving).
Adopting an assured approach that includes taut rhythms (Mt Cargill, Water Underground) and a sometimes spare tonal canvas that drips with reverberating guitars (A Friend From Argentina), Tonnon has pulled off that most difficult of tricks: a sublime collection of short stories masquerading as pop songs.
