
The only requirement of each entry was that it include an Otago Daily Times masthead.
An array of styles resembling everything from fezzes, busbies, bonnets, cloches, pill boxes and picture hats to stetsons and top hats, were crafted with traditional felt, feathers through to wrapping paper and newsprint. There were pert fascinators and some distinctive wearable art.
The winning entry was from Polly Mustard, of Sawyers Bay, while the under-16 prize went to Morgan King (15) of North Taieri.
"The winners stood out because they were well-balanced and answered the brief in a really creative way,'' said Dr Barton. She commended all the entries. "We saw humour, fun, artistry and technical skills.''
The first prize includes:
Two tickets to the opening of the iD Dunedin Fashion Week (a private function); two tickets to the iD International Emerging Designer Awards; two tickets to the iD Dunedin Fashion Show and pre-show function; a night's accommodation in an executive suite at Hotel St Clair with a continental breakfast; 9ct Diamond Cluster earrings from Stewart Dawsons; Revlon prize pack; Redken prize pack; vouchers from the Golden Centre, Waughs, Hype, Charmaine Reveley, I Love Paris and Erban Spa.
The Under-16 prize: Two tickets to the iD Dunedin Fashion Show, a Revlon prize pack and a Redken prize pack.
