The first-floor space, which is a work in progress, has been designed along the lines of lofts of New York and Melbourne, the showroom exuding a strong industrial aesthetic in the lighting and showcase fittings.

"What is particularly pleasing is the fact that we now have our own dedicated entrance'' says Mr Henderson, who custom-designs engagement rings, wedding bands and a superb range of contemporary jewellery which includes brooches, pendants and necklaces, bracelets, rings and cufflinks for customers in New Zealand and Australia as well as further afield.

He has also built a name for a series of jewellery which have included various takes on hotrod cars and military tanks. He is currently working on a New Zealand range.

Yet another aspect of his rich design talent is found in fantastical hand-crafted metal ornaments. These are large and intricate statement pieces to be enjoyed.

With an inherent love of metals Henderson launched his own collections under the Iain Henderson Designs brand, which he sold through retailers nationwide. But his enjoyment lies in custom designing for clients and in 1986 he established Iain Henderson Jewellery in the original George St showroom.
