The only time I've worn culottes was when it was a mandatory part of my primary school uniform and even then I thought they were unacceptable (at age 7 I knew a fashion faux pas when I saw one).

However, culottes are slowly creeping back into mainstream fashion, whether I like it or not!

Although men had been wearing culottes since the Renaissance period, women didn't embrace this hybrid between a skirt and pants until the Victorian era and only then for modesty purposes, when they were physically active.

This summer (and upcoming winter) women probably don't care about the practicality of culottes, just the fact they're on trend.

A word of warning: always wear with sky-high heels.

Plaid please

Plaid is proving extremely popular for summer.

In fact, you can consider any plaid purchases you make from here on in worth your while, as it appears plaid is sticking around, right through until winter at least.

For the summer months, wear your plaid in play-suits, T-shirts, dresses and shorts in either big, bold and bright designs or opt for delicately feminine fabrics and hues.

As the weather cools you'll want your plaids dark and subdued in slip dresses, coats, cropped jackets and man-style pants.
