Actress Sarah Jessica Parker is adamant her Met Gala outfit did fit the technology theme.

The Sex and the City star has hit back at critics who slammed her for apparently failing to channel the futuristic dress code in her all-white ensemble to the star-studded bash in New York City on Monday.

The 51-year-old insists she "got the memo" and carefully considered her garments before the event, which had the theme Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology.

In a post on her Instagram account, she wrote: "Got the memo. Always welcome thoughts but I'm a stickler for the theme and pay close attention to what it means. Every year with great consideration, research and conviction.

"The understanding of man and machine, how they intersect, when and why is what we considered. Perhaps you weren't aware of the technology used in the details and embellishments of the design.

"Or perhaps you simply didn't like what I wore which is completely fine but you can't accuse me of not paying close attention and adhering to the theme. With respect and warmest regards, sj. (sic)"

Despite negative critiques about her two-piece, Parker - who is a spokesperson for Jordache Jeans - made sure she also praised the team who created her look for the event on social media.

On her Instagram account, she posted a photo of the garments and matching accessories she adorned to the event, along with the caption: "A wonderful night. A fantastic date. A wonderful design team@monsemaison, hair @sergenormant , makeup @leslielopezmakeupartist, the eye of @erinwalshnyc and my trusted partner @alyssa and many memories. Wash face, brush teeth and try to fall asleep while images of trains and sequins dominate. The Met Ball 2016 out. X, sj #manusxmachina (sic)"
