Auckland property developer David Stewart Henderson - just made bankrupt by order of the High Court - is reported to be taking "a short holiday" in Spain.
Henderson, whose Kitchener Group was involved in some high profile Auckland developments including Princes Wharf and the Hilton Hotel, owed a total of $128 million to a range of creditors including Inland Revenue, Bank West and Downer Construction.
The ruling ended his two year fight against a bankruptcy application first sought by the IRD in July 2009 after it obtained an order for $3.7 million against Henderson in December 2008.
The Official Assignee's Auckland regional manager, David Harte told the New Zealand Herald Henderson flew out of New Zealand last Friday, and would face questioning on his return to determine the circumstances of his departure.
Mr Henderson's barrister, Daniel Grove, told the newspaper that his client had not fled the country.
"He is on a short vacation.
"He will be back in the country on June 25."
