ANZ chairman John Judge will today impart some of his wide business experience to a Dunedin audience as part of his week-long residency at the University of Otago Business School.

Mr Judge is the business school's inaugural executive in residency, hosted by the department of accountancy and finance. He is an Otago graduate, having grown up in Northeast Valley and attended Otago Boys' High School.

Today, Mr Judge will chair the board meeting for local business ADInstruments and be the keynote speaker at a Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand "town and gown'' function at the Dunedin Club.

During the function, Mr Judge will present awards to business students.

Mr Judge started his residency on Monday and said he was honoured to be the first executive in residence.

"I enjoy interacting with business people of all ages and from all sectors. But being able to spend quality time with some of New Zealand's future business leaders is an exciting opportunity.

"I hope to pass on some business insights that will benefit their business careers and help them make New Zealand a great place to live and work,'' he said.

During the residency, Mr Judge would outline what it meant and what it took to be a successful business professional in an ever changing and complex business environment.

Business school dean George Benwell said Mr Judge's appointment presented a great opportunity for students and staff to learn from his national and international experience.

Mr Judge's career had included being chief executive of Ernst & Young New Zealand, chairman of Museum of New Zealand Te Papa and chairman of ACC.

He is at present chairman of ANZ and the Auckland Arts Festival, a director of Fletcher Building Industries and the New Zealand initiative, and a member of the Otago Business School board of advisers.
