The group in charge of overseeing the Forsyth Barr Stadium project has called for answers in relation to issues that have arisen over carpentry contracts for the stadium.
Dunedin Mayor Peter Chin, chairman of the stakeholders group, which includes the city and regional councils, said yesterday he was "trying to find some answers" to why there was a breakdown in communication between the Carisbrook Stadium Trust and major contractor Hawkins Construction.
"I am making inquiries," he said when asked yesterday.
"I would want some detail on what it is that actually happened."
On Wednesday, it emerged the contract for the work had been let without the knowledge of the trust, bypassing an agreed process between it and Hawkins.
Those answers may be coming soon, as trust chairman Malcolm Farry said last night he now understood the error that had occurred, though he did not plan to name names.
He said despite the impression that may have been given, the correct procurement process was followed for the tendering, although the trust had not been properly informed.
Asked what he meant, he said the legal process had been followed, despite "a miscommunication in the reporting of the process to the trust".
Mr Chin said he wanted details of what happened, so he could evaluate the situation.
Deputy mayor Syd Brown said under the service level deed between the parties, matters of "significance" had to be reported to the stakeholders group, and the issue appeared to be such a matter.
He expected a report on the matter.
