John Wilson Promenaders organised a gala day to celebrate the use of temporary bollards, rather than gates, to stop cars from driving on the stretch of road.

Organiser Arthur Linnel said many people were not aware they could walk or cycle down the drive because the gates looked inhibiting. He wanted to ensure the public knew the area was open and encouraged them to make use of the space.

About 2000 people took part in the day, which featured pony rides, face painting and free apples for children.
