Two arrested after officer assaulted

A Dunedin man who grabbed a police constable's testicles while a woman kicked the officer faces several charges.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said police were called to a Canongate address at 3am yesterday, where an officer was assaulted while arresting a 41-year-old man for dangerous driving, and then kicked by a 33-year-old woman.

The man was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer, while the woman has been charged with obstruction.

Dunedin police caught three men in their early 20s tampering with vehicles yesterday morning.

Sergeant Dave Scott said police were called to Walter St at 9am following a call from a member of the pubic who saw the trio acting suspiciously around parked vehicles.

One man was charged with unlawful taking, and the other two with unlawful interference.

The men are to appear in Dunedin District Court today.

Police are seeking a burger burglar who stole items from an inner city fast food premises on Saturday night.

The unlocked office of Velvet Burger on George St was entered between 6pm on Saturday and 3am yesterday, where alcohol was consumed, and a laptop and a $16,000 engagement ring was stolen.

Police are reviewing video footage of the incident, Snr Sgt Aitken said.

Dunedin police locked up a man charged with assault, following an incident at an inner city establishment early yesterday.

Police were called to Metro bar at 3.20am, and arrested a 21-year-old man who had allegedly assaulted two people.

He is expected to appear in Dunedin District Court this week, Snr Sgt Aitken said.

A teenager who yesterday crashed her car near the Dunedin District Court will make an appearance in the same building on a drink-driving charge.

Snr Sgt Aitken said the 17-year-old failed to take the Dunbar St-Lower Stuart St corner shortly before 4am.

She has been charged with drink-driving after recording a breath alcohol reading of 440mcg per litre of breath, three times the 150mcg legal limit for under-20s.

The teenager was one of several younger drivers processed for drink-driving over the weekend, including a 24-year-old man stopped at Brook St, who recorded 738mcg, and a 19-year-old man, who recorded 270mcg at a Mosgiel address.
