Cruise ship plan revised

Dunedin City Council has revised its traffic plan for cruise ships, after consulting affected parties.

City Environment general manager Tony Avery said the council would continue to use upper Stuart St for cruise ship buses as it presented fewer traffic-related problems.

As a result, non-cruise ship traffic coming from Moray Pl to the Octagon would be blocked from travelling down Stuart St and in front of the Municipal Chambers, where passengers would disembark and board buses.

A taxi stand would remain in Stuart St rather than be relocated to opposite the Hoyts movie complex, with metered parking to remain in the Octagon quadrant between Princes and Stuart Sts.

The taxi stand in lower Stuart St remained unchanged, with more taxi rank options being looked at for cruise ship days.

Tour buses for local attractions would continue to park outside the i-Site visitor centre on lower Princes St.
