Sustainability and pupils stars of film

Dunedin school pupils attended a special movie premiere yesterday.

The 12-minute film celebrated sustainability and the principles of the Enviroschools programme, regional co-ordinator Jenny Neilson said.

"It shows the five guiding principles of Enviroschools, which are sustainable communities, empowering students, learning for sustainability, Maori perspective and respect for diversity of people and cultures."

The film looked at sustainable, community-based activities being undertaken by pupils at Karitane, Musselburgh, St Brigid's and

Warrington primary schools and Queen's High School "It's about creating peaceful, sustainable and healthy communities," Ms Neilson said.

"Schools in partnership with communities through working together creates a very strong model of sustainable practice coming into being.

"If you show young people 'this is how it's done' then you don't have to change their behaviour later on. It's the most efficient way of living for the community and the planet around them."

Splash Room Media began filming the school pupils for the film in August.
