There is only one way to describe it.

The Dunedin Ice Skating Club's Poppins on Ice is nothing short of supercal-refrigerated-expialidocious!Poppins on Ice is the sixth ice show to be held at the Dunedin Ice Stadium, and brings together more than 150 ice hockey players, speed skaters, figure skaters and recreational skaters from around the region to re-tell the classic family favourite of Mary Poppins through music and movement.

The show is the third to be directed by synchronised ice skater Lisa Stevens (22) and ice hockey player Ashleigh Black (22).

Their previous shows were Oz on Ice and Sleeping Beauty on Ice.

Miss Black said she used to do Stage Challenges at school and had been skating since she was about 6"So when the opportunity came up for Lisa and I to direct one of these shows ourselves, I jumped at it because it was a great way to combine two passions in my life."

Working with such a wide range of ages and skating abilities had been challenging, but Miss Black said the secret was to focus on the strengths of the participants so everyone felt they were making an important contribution.

She said the cast had been working on the show since July. "It's going to be quite spectacular," she said.

The show runs for one hour and 45 minutes, and will be held this Saturday at 4.30pm and Sunday at 1pm and 5pm.
