Steel used to shore up old building

Safety work continues on a partially collapsed building in Rattray St, central Dunedin.

One lane of the Exchange area street will stay closed while unsafe parts of the building are removed and the remaining section is stabilised.

Matthew Williams, from engineering consultancy CPG, said the safety work was likely to take at least all of this week.

A pile of steel framing, which will support the facade of the building, was on site and staff from contractor Lund South, which is doing the physical work on the building, would begin erecting it today, Mr Williams said.
