Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said the note, which was written in pink pen and included the writer's name and where he lived on Bradshaw St, criticised the neighbours' alleged history of speeding up and down the South Dunedin street.
His 19- and 21-year-old male neighbours took exception to the note, armed themselves with a knife and a baseball bat and paid him a visit about noon.
The "neighbourhood dispute" resulted in the trio being arrested, one for threatening to kill and the others for possession of offensive weapons.
They will appear in the Dunedin District Court this week.
