More than $40,000 worth of equipment was stolen from a Dunedin business at the weekend in one of the largest commercial burglaries in the city for many years, police say.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin, said a door to Spectrum Photo Kodak Express in McNab St, Kaikorai Valley, was forced sometime between Friday night and yesterday.
The burglary was reported to police at 8.30pm yesterday.
A computer, a photo-processing kiosk and other items were stolen, and the building was left ransacked, he said.
"The value of the items taken is estimated to be in excess of $40,000.
"That's a fairly impressive amount. It's a substantial burglary.
"It's one of the largest-value breaks we've had that I can remember."
Snr Sgt Aitken believed the burglary would have involved more than one person because the photo-processing kiosk was large and heavy.
A vehicle would also have been needed to take it away.
Police are keen to hear from any witnesses, or anyone who has information about the burglary.
