A tweet from Stephen Fry has plugged the Dunedin visit of ''my old friend Sirocco the kakapo''.

Early this morning the British actor, who has more than 3 million followers on Twitter, referenced the flightless parrot's visit to the Orokonui Ecosanctuary during September.

''Hoping he avoids this misbehaviour,'' he tweeted before linking to the YouTube clip (see below) of Sirocco trying to mate with his friend and zoologist Mark Carwardine in 2009.

Sirocco will visit the Dunedin-based ecosanctuary, and Zealandia in Wellington over the next two months to promote the work of the Kakapo Recovery Programme.

Fry is currently in Wellington working on Peter Jackson's 'Hobbit' films.
