The staging of Rugby World Cup events in the Octagon has meant this year's commemoration of the deaths of men from prostate cancer will take place at the Otago Museum Reserve.
This year, 670 blue crosses, each representing a man who died from the disease in 2008, will be laid at the reserve on September 23.
Dunedin Placemakers owner-operator Justin Macready said staff made all the wooden crosses.
Getting men to talk about the disease was "a big thing" and he had noticed increasing willingness for that, with at least one customer vowing to go and get a check-up after reading information handed out by the company.
A variety of events have been planned for Blue September and Mr Macready said Placemakers nationally hoped to raise $500,000.
Foundation chief executive Keith Beck, of Dunedin, indicated the organisation was not deterred by the RWC coinciding with its Blue September awareness and fundraising campaign.
It was not possible to change the month because it was an international event.
