A virtual computer 3-D model has been created to highlight to prospective clients the hosting capabilities of Forsyth Barr Stadium and the Dunedin Town Hall's Municipal Chambers.
Sara McKenzie, an Otago Polytechnic interior design graduate, created the virtual "walk-through" of the two buildings as a marketing tool for Dunedin Venues Management Ltd to help plan for "concerts, conferences and other events".
Ms McKenzie said the computer models of the venues enabled planning for prospective event managers.
The 3-D model allows for "the 'drop-in' of furniture, staging and other items, which can then be rearranged in different ways within the building's rooms and spaces, minimising the amount of time needed to set up on site", she said.
The project took more than 100 hours to create the virtual stadium, and about 60 hours for the Municipal Chambers model, she said.
"The user can move throughout the virtual buildings to get a real sense of the spaces within them and accurately plan the layouts of events and functions," she said.
DVML event manager Kaitlin Wolf called the system "absolutely amazing".
"We didn't realise how detailed it would be. It's brilliant for showing to clients from out of town who aren't familiar with our venues," she said.
