Some of 437 dancing and costume-wearing pupils from George St Normal School, in Dunedin, take part in their school show on the Forsyth Barr Stadium playing arena last night.

Hundreds of parents and family members gathered for the 90-minute show - the first of its kind at the stadium - which principal Rod Galloway said aimed to show the school's vibrant arts programme and pupils "on a big scale".

The pupils danced to music in brightly-coloured costumes representing the Pacific, Asia, Africa and Europe, and the elements of earth, air, fire and water.

Dunedin Venues Management Ltd chief executive David Davies also praised the event, saying he welcomed the variety it brought to the stadium event calendar.
