However, the Department of Conservation is continuing to warn dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash, after having to remind a few since the pup and its mother made the beach their home.
A fence had been erected around the sea lions, temporary notices put up urging owners to keep dogs on a lead and volunteers were watching over the pair.
Doc community relations ranger Lucy Hardy said the pair were very popular with families and there had been a lot of people on the beach since their discovery.
"They're doing fine; they don't seem to be bothered."
To ensure that continued, 10 volunteers from the Tomahawk Smaills Beach Care Group, Sea Lion Trust and Doc volunteers from Sandfly Bay were taking shifts to watch over them and help educate people about being around such animals.
"On the whole, people have been very well behaved."
Doc would continue to monitor the situation on a day-by-day basis, she said.
