The garden is celebrating the Year of the Dragon from tomorrow to January 24. Manager Margo Reid said goldfish were considered to be auspicious and releasing one at New Year was thought to bring good luck and prosperity for the year.

People are able to adopt a fish, name it and release it into the pond. She said it was also a way to stock the pond as it now had a good growth of oxygen weed for the fish to hide in. Older fish in the pond were flourishing, she said.

Other activities at the garden during the four days include a dragon hunt, building the wall of friendship, the wishing tree, tea ceremonies, dragon parade and on Sunday evening, fireworks.
