Trust donates $85,368

The Clutha Licensing Trust has given $85,368 to the Chair in Neurosurgery campaign, bringing the tally close to the $2 million mark.

Fundraising had reached more than $1.95 million towards $3 million to pay for three neurosurgeons at Dunedin Hospital, as well as neurosurgery research and teaching at the University of Otago.

Clutha trust community foundation general manager Warwick Hodder said trust directors were pleased to contribute to improved medical services.

The trust's donation would support the research component of the wages of one of the neurosurgeons for the first year. This enabled public donations to gain interest before needing to be drawn down from the endowment fund.

Fundraising chairman Dr Brian McMahon said with several other fundraisers in the pipeline, the campaign was going extremely well.
