The question of repairing, rather than replacing, the Mosgiel Library roof was raised at a meeting in the town this week.
Following a request, the Mosgiel Taieri Community Board, at this week's meeting, was presented with a report outlining how the library building was used, maintenance issues, and possible redevelopment ideas.
In it, library services manager Bernie Hawke outlined problems with the building's roof, which suffered intermittent leaks.
A complete replacement was required because of deterioration of the roof fabric, at an estimated cost of $250,000.
On a suggestion by Cr Syd Brown, the board requested further investigation be carried out to determine if the roof could be repaired, rather than fully replaced, and the cost of such work outlined.
Cr Brown believed repair work was more likely to get funding because it would come out of a maintenance budget, rather than capital works.
