Unusual rescue at Larnach Castle

Larnach Castle's tight and twisty staircase added to an ‘‘unusual'' callout for the St Kilda Fire Station yesterday.

Station officer Pete Douglas said a castle visitor ‘‘took a bit of a tumble coming out of the tower'' and rolled his ankle about 10.30am, and lifting assistance was required.

However, moving the young man proved troublesome, because the tower's tight steps meant it was ‘‘not really'' easy to transport him down.

‘‘We got him down by ‘bum-shuffling' down the steps so far, then we put him on a lift chair. It was a bit of an unusual one. It's the first time we've been called out there for a non-fire event,'' Mr Douglas said.
