Otago Polytechnic Council chairwoman Kathy Grant and Polson Higgs chief executive Graham Crombie have been appointed as the final two directors on the board of Dunedin City Holdings Ltd.

They join chairman Denham Shale and Bill Bayliss, who were appointed last November to the board of the company responsible for the city's council-controlled organisations.

Mayor Dave Cull said only one director position had been advertised but, aware there would be a need for a second appointment at a later date, the interview panel had selected two candidates they felt possessed "valuable and complementary attributes".

He said he was pleased DCHL had attracted local directors with such solid governance experience and accomplishments.

Mrs Grant, a practising lawyer with Gallaway Cook Allan, had served on the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic Councils, of which she is the chairwoman, and the boards of trustees for St Hilda's Collegiate, John McGlashan College and Maori Hill primary school.

Mr Crombie was the chief executive and a partner at Polson Higgs.

He had served as the chairman of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Australia New Zealand Chartered Accountants Board, and the Otago Polytechnic Council, and was the chairman of the Otago Museum Board.

Mr Shale was appointed chairman by the council after the former board, headed by Cr Paul Hudson, was sacked following revelations of an $8 million shortfall in dividends from the company.

The board is tasked with reviewing the council's various companies by November.

It has also started reviewing Dunedin Venues Management Ltd and the Forsyth Barr Stadium's operations and finances, including the future mix of commercial and community events inside the venue, after a reported $1.9 million loss by DVML for the first six months of the 2011-12 financial year, and a forecast full-year loss of $2.4 million.

The board is expected to report back to council on that later this year.

Mr Shale said last night he thought the new appointments were "brilliant".
