Persistent drizzle caused a slip on Portobello Rd near Irvine Rd yesterday as Dunedin experienced the tail-end of a slow moving front affecting the upper South Island.

Dunedin City Council roading engineer Peter Standring said the rain yesterday had caused some minor slips and surface flooding. Five roads were closed due to heavy rain last week.

"It's not as bad as last week."

Dunedin city recorded 14mm of rain in 24 hours, compared to 18.2mm last Monday, Sullivans Dam 25mm and Pine Hill 31.4mm to 4pm yesterday.

Roads still closed due to flooding are: Sheppard Rd (from Allans Beach Rd to Papanui Inlet Rd); McGrath Rd (from State Highway 1 to Ramrock Rd at Waikouaiti River); Silverstream Valley Rd (from the end of seal); Flagstaff-Whare Flat Rd (from Rollinsons Rd)Mt Cargill Rd, from Upper Junction Rd to Green Rd, is closed 1.5km north of Upper Junction Rd because it is unsafe.
