Police are praising the actions of an 8-year-old boy who
refused offers of a car ride and lollies from a male stranger
and then hid from him.
The man was alone in a "greeny-blue" four-door car when he
approached the boy in Victoria Rd, near John Wilson Ocean Dr,
about 4.15pm on Monday, Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan White
said.
The boy was cycling home from school.
"The male ... asked him if he wanted a ride or some lollies.
The boy told him 'no' then took off on his bike and hid until
he saw the man drive off," Acting Snr Sgt White said.
The boy told his parents, who reported the incident to
police.
"The child did everything right," Acting Snr Sgt White said.
The man wore a hat which obscured some of his face and was
possibly a Caucasian of slim build.
He drove a car "with rings in the front", similar to an Audi,
Acting Snr Sgt White said.
Police asked for reports of anyone who matched the man's
description and was acting suspiciously.
