Police seek witness to car flipping

Waikouaiti police want to talk to a motorist who saw a car, with an elderly man and large dog inside, flip at the southern end of the Kilmog yesterday afternoon.

Constable Jon-Paul Tremain, of Waikouaiti, said an elderly man driving south had lost control of the silver Toyota Vista he was driving on the Waikouaiti-Waitati Rd about 1.10pm yesterday.

The car had overtaken another southbound vehicle on double yellow lines, then lost control, hit a large ditch, flipped and hit a pine tree before landing upright on its wheels, Const Tremain said.

The man was taken to Dunedin Hospital for observation, he said. The dog was not injured.

Police would like to talk to the male driver of a black car who might have seen the vehicle attempting to pass his vehicle on the inside, Const Tremain said.

The driver of the black car can contact Waikouaiti police on (03) 465-9127.
