Cartoon clocks - pupils have the technology

Photo by Craig Baxter. There will be fewer valid excuses for being late to class for Kavanagh College technology pupils from this week, after they constructed their own clocks shaped like cartoon characters.

The clocks were made from wood, and resemble characters such as Eric Cartman, from South Park, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and Calvin, from the cartoon Calvin and Hobbes, which appears in the Otago Daily Times.

The cartoon clocks were created by year 11 pupils as part of their NCEA level 1 hard materials technology class this week.

And for 15-year-old Shaun Tatley, it proved a timely project, because he planned to give his clock to his father for his birthday. (Sorry for spoiling the birthday surprise, Mr Tatley).

Shaun said he built a clock shaped like both Pacman and a ghost because it was his father's favourite video game when he was growing up.

''It killed two birds with one stone - dad's present and my NCEA level 1 technology project, hopefully endorsed with excellence.''
