Work has not yet started on clearing this landslip in Brown St, central Dunedin, as council contractors wait for the earth to dry out.

Dunedin City Council roading maintenance engineer Peter Standring said a consultant hired by the council advised the slip should be allowed to settle a little more before the site was cleared.

''We are a bit unnerved about what will happen on the rest of the site if we take it away at the moment.''

The situation would be reassessed at the end of this week. Work had also stopped on a large slip in Blanket Bay Rd, for the same reason. The road had been closed in the meantime around the slip site.

Mr Standring appreciated that was causing frustration for residents, but it could be some time before the road was reopened. If anyone had any concerns about their property, they should call EQC and their insurer, he said.
