Delta equipment being auctioned

Infrastructure company Delta is planning another mass auction of vehicles and equipment as it moves to wind up its civil construction arm.

It was confirmed yesterday the Dunedin City Council-owned company had contracted Turners Auction to sell surplus trucks, machinery, plant and equipment.

Delta chief executive Grady Cameron said the deal aimed to maximise returns from the surplus assets for the company.

All the items would be sold online by Turners, and the first auctions had already begun, he said.

The move comes after Delta confirmed in July it was to close its civil construction business across Otago and Southland. Some 74 jobs are to go by January next year.

Together with other job losses in Christchurch and Central Otago, the company will have shed almost 150 workers since mid-2012.
