Clydesdales and a Rolls-Royce coupe displayed different types of horsepower yesterday in a parade to encourage Dunedin road users to be considerate.

Dunedin City Council safe and sustainable travel co-ordinator Charlotte Flaherty said more than 100 people were involved in the first Share the Road Parade from the University of Otago's school of dentistry building to the Octagon.

The parade gave different types of road users the chance to travel together safely, Mrs Flaherty said.

''We had modern and vintage cars, two buses, horses, motorcycles, mobility scooters, children's scooters, bicycles and pedestrians ... There are many different modes on the road and if we share, we get along quite nicely.''

At the parade, two new Dunedin road safety trusts - Visually Impaired Charitable Trust Aotearoa NZ and the Horse Riders Road Safety Trust - were represented, Mrs Flaherty said.

She hoped the awareness parade would become an annual event.
