Many Dunedin cafes, bars and food outlets were busy yesterday
as shoppers, including overseas visitors, sought out shops
that had remained open.
Most shops, including a high proportion of outlets in the two
blocks north of the Octagon, and most city shopping malls
Shane Ross, the owner of Black Rabbit Bakery, in George St,
said yesterday was the shop's third-busiest day since it
opened five weeks ago.
Staff at several shops, including one selling clothing, said
the closure of other shops had added to their customer
Pak'n Save Dunedin co-owner Chris McDonald said overall
demand was ''more subdued'' compared to New Year's Eve, but
''full-order shopping'', in which customers bought extensive
supplies, was continuing.
