Nikkita Burgess-Moyle (24) told the Otago Daily Times she was only told the certificate in media communication was being dropped from the Aoraki Polytechnic's Dunedin campus a week before she was due to start.
Since then, Aoraki Polytechnic had been in touch to apologise and she had taken up its offer of a place in its digital photography programme, which she was starting on Monday.
She was pleased with the polytechnic's response since the story was published, saying it had gone ''above and beyond''.
''They have been really good, really supportive,'' she said.
She had also received calls from other institutions, including Otago Polytechnic and the Southern Institute of Technology, offering her places.
Aoraki Polytechnic chief executive Alex Cabrera said it would be examining its operations to ensure it did not happen again.
''I speak on behalf of all at Aoraki when I say how sorry we are that this has happened, and how committed we are to making sure we do better in the future,'' Mr Cabrera said.
It had been a ''busy and difficult few months internally'' and the polytechnic was ''committed to minimising'' the effect on students, he said.
