Saturday's Wings and Wheels was the biggest yet, organisers
Co-organiser Warwick Sims said thousands attended the event
at Taieri Airfield and feedback was positive.
''There's been a lot of work gone into it and it's been worth
it for us and we are happy,'' Mr Sims said.
He described the event as ''all highlights'', but he was
''particularly impressed'' by the public interest in trial
and scenic flights.
One of Mr Sims' favourite moments from the day was hearing
how Dunedin pilot Craig Buist had taken a 10-year-old girl
for a flight on her birthday and when they could not
immediately land his amphibious plane when returning, he took
her to Macandrew Bay and bought her an ice cream: ''It was
her favourite flavour apparently, hokey pokey''.
The turnout from the car clubs and Otago Aero Club was
heartening, he said.
''We were very lucky with the weather on the day.''
