Hotel wait continues

The wait goes on for supporters and opponents of Dunedin's proposed $100 million waterfront hotel.

The Otago Daily Times understands an announcement on the project's future is imminent, but key players remained tight-lipped yesterday while a statement was finalised.

Mayor Dave Cull and Dunedin lawyer Steve Rodgers, representing developer Betterways Advisory Ltd, could not comment yesterday, and Betterways director Jing Song could not be contacted.

Lack of transparency is disturbing.

I don't like our public servants working backdoor deals like this.  "We're rolling out the red carpet" Cull claimed.  They'll probably seal the deal at the golf course over drinks in the clubhouse.  The record number of submissions against this monstrosity be damned.  This whole thing is looking like a mini TPPA in Dunedin.  "We can't tell you what the discussions are or what the decision will be until it's signed off, but we can assure you it will be the right one".  What's happening to democracy in this country?
