Progress made in assault inquiry

Police have yet to speak to the victim of an assault which occurred in the Octagon on Sunday.

A 38-year-old man was taken to hospital with a fractured skull following an incident near a cordon put in place following the death of a Dunedin man in an Octagon bar hours earlier.

The man remains in a stable condition in hospital after he was struck by a bottle during an altercation.

Police were making positive progress on the inquiry, Detective Sergeant Dave Nelson said.

Police are still seeking witnesses to the assault, and anyone with information is asked to contact Det Sgt Nelson on 471-4800.
