'Negotiations' over Gresham building

A Dunedin heritage building owner could be about to breathe new life into the dilapidated Gresham Hotel, which overlooks Queens Gardens.

Stephen McKnight yesterday confirmed he was in ''negotiations'' with the former hotel's owner, Peter Laing, and had begun ''tidying up'' the building's interior.

Mr McKnight was reluctant to comment on details of any sale negotiations or his plans for the building until they were confirmed.

That was expected to happen ''in the next week or two'', he said.

Redevelopment of the old hotel would be another sign of progress towards revitalising the city's warehouse heritage precinct.

Mr McKnight's heritage property interests include Consultancy House, Queens Gardens Court - home of the Duke of Wellington bar - and the Bing Harris, NMA and Donald Reid buildings.
