Suspect on child's scooter fails to evade police

Two central Dunedin food stores were robbed last night by an offender who made their escape on a child's scooter.

At 9.40pm the Night n' Day store, situated in The Octagon, was robbed, and a small number of grocery items were taken.

Subway, on George St, was hit at 10pm and a small amount of cash was taken.

There were no injuries on either occasion.

Senior Sergeant Dave Scott, of Dunedin, in both cases ‘getaway vehicle' was a child's scooter.

Images from security cameras at the scenes were distributed to staff searching for the offender and a 31-year-old Dunedin woman has been taken into custody.

No one else is being sought in relation to the robberies.
