A proposal to change the route and frequency of a bus service to Brockville has led to about 200 submissions being made to a proposed transport plan.
About 330 people and organisations have made submissions to the draft regional public transport plan that contains sweeping changes, expected to lead to faster and more direct routes away from smaller residential streets.
A panel of regional councillors, Sam Neill (chairman) and Michael Deaker, along with Dunedin city councillor Aaron Hawkins, will hear the views of about 40 of those submitters at a hearing starting today.
One of the proposals in the plan was to change the route to Brockville to run to the Exchange, up Rattray St and City Rd and through Belleknowes, before heading down Stone St to Brockville.
The residents had said the changes would add time to the bus trip that used to travel to the city via Stuart St.
It would also make it difficult for people in a suburb with no major supermarket to visit shops in Roslyn, and would end a direct route to Moana Pool.
Another issue, which attracted 20 submissions was the need for a public transport service to the Orokonui Ecosanctuary.
Ecosanctuary general manager Chris Baillie ''urgently requested'' in her submission an extension to either the Waitati or Port Chalmers route.
''This is vital to assisting the ecosanctuary ... to become financially self-sufficient.''
