Mosgiel's Bookbus service is safe for now, though there has been no noticeable change in patronage since the matter was raised with the community board in July.

Dunedin library services manager Bernie Hawke told the board at the time multiple attempts had been made to try to bolster usage of the service, which was attracting only four or five regular users at its Mosgiel stops.

He said yesterday there had been no dramatic increase in usage since then and the situation was still being monitored, but there were no imminent plans to relocate the stops or to remove the service.

''We were more just indicating to the board at that time that there was low patronage and we were, and continue to be, mindful that the usage of Mosgiel stops is among the lowest of the bus's runs.''

In a way it was a compliment to the Mosgiel library that it was providing the services residents wanted, but the bus was still a useful option for people who could not get to the library.
