Adam is in hospital for a bone infusion. Wooliam, a black sheep with attitude, gamboled into the children's ward, where he shared a bit of warmth and cheer with its young occupants.
He gave balloons, stickers and wristbands to the children.
There are 14 patients in the ward, many of whom may not be able to go home to celebrate Christmas Day next week.
But one parent said Wooliam's visit was a bright light in what had otherwise been a stressful time for her and her daughter.
Wooliam's visit to the hospital was part of his tour of Dunedin schools, and he will be busy making public appearances at schools, shopping malls and major functions across the country until the end of the tournament next June.
