Police investigation into barbed wire

Police are investigating a complaint about barbed wire found at the Warrington Domain, it has been confirmed.

The Otago Daily Times reported yesterday Warrington resident John Miller had found more than 60 lengths of rusty barbed wire scattered across a vehicle track leading to Blueskin Bay.

Mr Miller believed the pieces of barbed wire - each measuring between 20cm and 30cm - were left there to stop motorists driving on to the beach.

He worried people walking barefoot in the area - including young children - could have been injured instead.

Yesterday, Mr Miller confirmed he had taken a box containing the barbed wire to the Dunedin Central police station to lodge a formal complaint.

Staff there accepted the barbed wire and said it would be forwarded to Waikouaiti police for investigation, he said.
